Terms of Use
Effective October 30, 2026
The short version
- Readings are estimates from your phone's microphone, not certified measurements. Don't use them for legal, workplace-safety or medical decisions.
- Don't expose yourself or others to loud sound to test the app. Protect your hearing.
- The app is provided as is. We aren't liable for decisions made from its readings.
1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Realmbit, LLC ("Realmbit", "we", "us") and apply to the NoiseGauge app for Android and this website. By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. How we handle data is covered by the Privacy Policy.
2. Using the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use NoiseGauge on Android devices you own or control, for personal use or for work such as checking noise in a room or workplace. You may not copy, modify, resell or redistribute the app, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to use NoiseGauge to break any law or anyone else's rights. The app measures sound levels only and never records audio, but you're still responsible for following the rules of the places where you use it.
4. Measurements are estimates
Phone microphones are built for speech, not measurement. They differ from model to model, many limit or filter very quiet and very loud sounds, and readings above roughly 100 dB are often lower than the true level. A phone case, wind or how you hold the phone also changes the result. The calibration setting can improve accuracy but doesn't turn your phone into a certified instrument.
NoiseGauge is not a Class 1 or Class 2 sound level meter under IEC 61672 or any other standard. Please don't rely on its readings for legal evidence, noise complaints or disputes, occupational noise compliance, building or environmental assessments, or any other safety-critical, legal or contractual purpose. Use a certified meter for those.
5. Hearing and health
NoiseGauge is not a medical device and doesn't diagnose, treat or prevent hearing loss. The level labels and the loud-noise alert are general guidance, not safety limits. If you're in a loud place, use hearing protection whatever the app shows. Never create loud sound to test the app, and see a hearing professional if you have concerns about your hearing.
6. Your data
Sessions and settings are stored only on your phone. We can't recover them for you if they're deleted, the app is uninstalled or the phone is lost. Export anything you want to keep.
7. Third-party services
The app is distributed through Google Play, and Google Play's own terms apply to downloading and updating it. When you export or share data, the app or service you choose handles it under its own terms. We're not responsible for their availability or content.
8. Changes and availability
We may update, change or stop offering features, or the app itself, at any time. Updates may be required to keep using the app.
9. Ownership
NoiseGauge, its name, design and code belong to Realmbit, LLC. The app includes open-source components licensed by their owners under their own licences.
10. No warranty
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise the app will be error-free or uninterrupted.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or business, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim, or US $10 if you paid nothing.
Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
12. Ending these terms
You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. If you seriously break these terms, your licence to use the app ends.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be handled by the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you and Realmbit agree to their jurisdiction. If you live outside the United States, this doesn't take away any protection that the consumer laws of your country give you, including your right to bring claims in your local courts.
